Earl Thompson, founder and president of Youth Ambassadors of Virginia, is a dedicated advocate for the positive development of young people. Having grown up in the East End of Richmond and attended Richmond Public Schools, Earl’s own experiences have given him a deep understanding of the challenges young people face today. With a passion for guiding youth towards brighter futures, he brings an unwavering commitment and a wealth of experience to his role.

A Strong Foundation in Youth Mentorship and Support

Earl’s work with young males spans across a variety of settings, where he’s provided essential support, guidance, and mentorship. His extensive background includes roles in:

• Correctional Centers: Working at Hanover and Oakridge Correctional Centers, Earl gained firsthand experience helping young men who have encountered challenges within the justice system.

• Group Homes and Treatment Centers: Earl’s experience in group home environments and behavior/treatment centers has enabled him to connect with youth on a personal level, providing mentorship and counseling during critical moments in their lives.

• In-Home Counseling and Education: As an intensive in-home counselor, he provided personalized support to help youth develop coping skills and positive behaviors. Currently, he works in Richmond Public Schools, supporting students directly within their educational environment.

Earl’s academic journey is a testament to his dedication to education and personal growth. He holds a:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice – Providing a strong foundation in understanding systems and strategies that impact youth.

• Master’s Degree in Special Education – Equipping him with skills to support youth with diverse learning needs and behavioral challenges.

• Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership – Fostering leadership skills necessary to drive meaningful changes in education and youth development.
